Most
of our work involves consulting and designing with
groups of potential building users. We do sometimes get
involved in design of buildings for more straightforward
clients.
Even
here though much of our approach remains the same, with
investment of time in detailed briefing, an informal but
thorough process of exploring alternatives, and a
commitment to involving as many as possible of the
people who will use the buildings - directors and
caretakers have equally valid viewpoints.

Community-based creative consultants Heads Together
recently moved from Huddersfield's Media Centre to their
own offices on the new top floor of a converted chapel.
The difficulty in planning their space was that the new
upper floor wasn't there yet, and the huge, high space
in the chapel made it very hard to visualise. This is
where we (and our 3D visualisation software) came in,
setting up a 3D model of the space and allowing colour
and lighting to be modelled.
We were able to
propose the insertion of a new mezzanine over the kitchen/toilets area,
knowing that the headroom and enclosure of space worked, because we'd
walked through it on the 3D model. Now it's been built - and looks
great!
